Welcome back to Talking Tech. We're only halfway through January and we already have the first big hit game of It's called Wordle. You may have heard of it, you may have not. I write about it in a story that you can read on tech. We'll start by talking through Wordle, what it is, how you play, and then I'm going to offer some tips on how to succeed at Wordle because it's a fun puzzle game, but it can get a little tricky.
Basically, here's how it works. You go to the website for Wordle, which you can find in my story, and the goal is to guess the five letter word of the day in six tries. It has a layout of squares, kind of like a Wheel of Fortune-y kind of vibe to it. You basically have six rows of five letter words basically, and you have to try to guess each time.
You'll type in the five letter word you think it is and you'll work your way down. As you make a guess, the letters flip over in different colors. If the letter's gray, that means that that letter isn't in the word. If it's yellow, the letter is in the word, but it's not in the right spot.
If it's green, you got it exactly, so right letter, right spot. Again, I talked about it being daily, they release a new puzzle every day.
One of the big reasons it's taken off though is because of social media, specifically Twitter. They have this really cool share feature. What you do is it copies the results of your puzzle and it presents it in those squares, so people will just see the colors of the squares without giving away what the word is. You might see this grid of different squares and you might see a row that's all green, which shows that you got the word right. But then you may have rows where you have a couple that are green or one that's yellow, just to show your process as far as how long it took you before you finally figured out what the word is.
Obviously at this point, you're either in one of two camps or maybe three camps. You've never heard of Wordle, you have no idea what it is. You've heard of Wordle, you love it. You play it all the time.
