I've been a drummer and die-hard music fan my whole life. So when a bandmate turned me on to Crutchfield in , I was already an "old hand" with home and pro audio gear. I spent the next five years working as an Advisor and Team Leader. Talking to customers and helping them build their audio systems was an amazing experience. In , I joined our writing team, which gave me the chance to put another lifelong passion to use. And as you can imagine, I've accumulated tons of hands-on experience with the gear.

Well, because lots of people like their TVs to be as thin as possible while delivering a big screen size, the built-in speakers are tiny. So how do we remedy this? Well, there are lots of choices, some involving lots of speakers and high-tech components we sell those, too.
But if you're looking for a great-sounding, two-piece solution, you don't need to look further than this powerful HT-CTH sound bar from Sony. Installation is simple. Much of the time, one cable from your TV will take care of the setup. And your music sources haven't been forgotten, either. And speaking of being wireless, the subwoofer for this system is wireless as well.

This two-piece home theater system brings simplicity and performance together by pairing an self-amplified soundbar speaker and a wireless powered subwoofer to create a surround sound experience in a compact and easy to install package. The soundbar speaker acts as your home theater systems front and center speakers as well as giving you the effect that you have rear speakers positioned behind you. The soundbar speaker can be securely placed on a stand or shelf via its two integrated feet, or even wall mounted using its two rear-mounted keyhole slots mounting screws sold separately.
The soundbar speaker's keyhole slots are spaced The wireless powered subwoofer gets its signal from the system's soundbar wirelessly, via 5. The wireless powered sub can be placed virtually anywhere in your room. There are no extra audio cables to run; you do have to plug the powered sub into an AC outlet. Unlike other "virtual surround" technologies, rear sound is generated from the soundbar speaker using sophisticated digital sound processing and does not need to be bounced off of side walls.
No matter what the size or shape of the room or what is on the wall, it is possible to hear sounds from behind you without needing to place speakers behind you. You can select from one of the following sound fields to optimize your surround sound experience. The HDMI jacks transmit both multi-channel audio and high-definition video signals. There is single minijack 3. Audio Adjustments: The HT-CTH home theater system offers various audio adjustments to customize your music or movie listening experience.
You can pair multiple devices, but only one can be used at a time. Once paired, the HT-CTH will automatically re-connect with your device when in wireless range up to 33'. Auto Standby: You can reduce the system's power consumption. The system enters standby mode automatically when you do no operate the system for approximately 30 minutes and the system is not outputting sound for approximately 30 minutes.

I received the HT-CT as a gift from my parents, and set it up. The set up is incredibly smooth and easy, and the sound quality, when it works, is fantastic. However my wife and I have noticed that after minutes, the sound seems to skip, or jump in and out.
When there is continuous sound coming from the show or movie, it's ok. But when things get quiet, the sound seems to cut out entirely. It ends up being a disconcerting listening experience, and got so bad that we turned the sound bar off, forgoing the better sound for sound that didn't have the hiccups in it. Is there some troubleshooting that I can do and is that type of performance expected? Home Theater Systems.
Hello, Welcome to the Sony Community. What is the source device and the type of cable used to connect it to the TV? Did you check if the issue occurs with different devices too, like a DVD player, Walkman player, gaming console, etc.? Also, try using a different cable to connect the source device to the Home Theater System and check if the issue persists. Refer to the following link for additional troubleshooting. I seem to be having the same issue.
Did you ever end up solving this issue? I need more information about this issue: 1. What is the source you are playing? Does it happen when playing a different source? If the audio sound is intermittent through one or more of your speakers when playing your stereo, there may be a problem with the connection or a problem with the speakers. Follow these steps to try to resolve this issue: Turn off the sound bar and verify the speaker wires are properly connected to both the speakers and the sound bar.
Turn off any nearby electronic devices that may be interfering with the speaker sound. Move the speaker wires away from any electrical cords. If the issue is still unresolved, reset the sound bar to the factory default settings. Try replacing the speaker wires. If possible, connect a different set of speakers. If the problem is eliminated when different speakers are connected, the issue is with the originalspeakers. If the problem is not eliminated, then the problem is with the sound bar.
If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required. If my post answers your question, please click on "Accept as Solution. Thanks for the quick reply. I tried doing a tip I read somewhere online and it may have solved the problem need to confirm this by watching more TV. It seems if I power on the soundbar first before any other device the issue goes away. Connecting directly to Samsung smart TV via optical cable.
Every source seems to have the same issue. I will post back here with the results. Alig19, Did turning the soundbar on first solve the problem for you?
I'm having the same problem. I've switched out the optical cable twice. It hasn't helped. I just read your post and tried turning the soundbar on first. I've been watching Directv for the past 15 minutes and it's only cut out twice. Much better than before, but obviously I'd like it to never cut out.
I'll keep watching for a few more hours, but honestly I'm about ready to return the system and pick-up one with an HTML connection.
Thanks, Bashman. It's not working for me; still getting a lot of cutting out. Hey Bashman Unfortunately the problem was not resolved. It did lower the fequency of when it occured but it still happens enough to be annoying. It's dissapointing because I do like the sound quality it produces. I no longer have the boxes it came in so returning it isn't an option. There is an obvious problem with these speakers as it seems quite a few people are experiencing the same thing.
What can we do Sony? Is there a known fix? We have tried multiple optical cables with no luck. Other systems I've had do not have this problem. It is happening with mulitple TV types as well. I switched out the optical for analog cables. The sound quality isn't as good, but it's no longer cutting in and out. Fortunately, I still have my boxes and receipt, so I may return it if Sony doesn't give us a reasonable solution.
I too am having the same issue. It doesn't matter whether I'm listening via Bluetooth or over optical. I'll have to try the analog input, I got rid of the box, so I'm pretty much stuck with it. Ya pretty much just living with the issue now.
Not happy. I had the same issue with the subwoofer cutting out when it got quiet and step back up when sound returned. I found that the problem is with the "effect" setting that is turned on by default. It is in the "Audio" menu. Turning it off completely eliminated the cutout.
I think this setting is supposed to mimic surround sound, but it seems to cause this issue. Thank you for sharing your solution fulgore66! I looked up the instructions for the HT-CT and it doesn't appear to have the same setting. Sorry if I gave anyone with an older model false hope on a solution. That's alright fulgore66! No worries! We still appreciate you sharing your resolution on the issue. Hi jimbramlett! Hey TGoodrum! I've had the exact same issues for quite awhile now.
Sony has offered no fix or real explanation. Of all the recommendations by people, nothing really works. So if you can return it that would be your best bet. Too bad since the sound is quite good. I too have found that disabling the 'effect' in the audio menu does solve the problem but I really prefer the sound with the effect on.
Such a frustrating problem. Out of desperation I was going to try changing the audio setup, at the moment its an optical cable going from TV to soundbar.
Doubt it'll work but will try anything at this point. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks C. I'm having the exact same issue. The "beep", if you will. The first one or two beeps are muted, and if you continue switching, the subsequent ones are audible.
I've tried turning off the "effect", to no effect. I've tried DRC, different sound fields, everything. Sony -- please fix it! I will play around with it for one more day before I get fed up and return it for something better.
Wish I had seen this site yesterday. Same sound drop-out problem, turned off Effect, turned off DRC, no luck. I can't believe I'm looking for luck with this product. Where's the fix, sony? We are currently investigating this issue and I will update this thread once I have some new info for you.
I appreciate your patience. With the PS3 menu clicks, it takes a split second for it to notice the audio and turn everything back on. While in the menu, I don't believe the PS3 is sending a constant sound stream, so the soundbar thinks it is safe to go to sleep.
I too have the same gripe with this soundbar HT-CTH with regards to the sub dropping after quiet periods. Concur with fulgore66 in that this seems to be some sort of power saving or noise reduction feature. Will be returning this saturday unless Sony can offer a resolution. I hadn't noticed problem A in Fingers post but will check this when I get home. I couldnt agree more with bristow1, how did this go unnoticed? There are too many people all complaining about this issue with varying setups, the one common factor being the HTCT Could Sony or a moderator comment further?
The HTCTH has an option where you can view the firmware version, can we expect firmware updates for this model in the future? How would this be done?
Hi, I've bought this soundbar this week after reading stellar reviews. This soundbar does indeed sound great but unfortunately I have the issue exactly as it's described in this thread. No sound skipping with 'Effect' on OFF , but skipping like twice a minute during scenes that are more silent when it's ON. Very disappointing If no solution is offered here I will be returning my unit asking for my money back since it seems to be a general problem with this device, not just my unit.
I guess a firmware upgrade could solve this issue since it's software related but I too wonder how this would work. Hoping for a quick response from Sony here. Cheers, B. Other than Console menu's.
Hello, I have exactly the same problem with the subwoofer, when the sound is quieter in the box turns off and restarts with a time delay. This occurs on all types of movies! This gets really annoying, especially when you buy a Sony quality!
I also have this issue it is very annoying and I really don't know what to do as I no longer have the box to return it,am really disappointed because I went for Sony as it usually is the better option in my opinion.
Please Sony will you sort this out as I fear that this soundbar will be disconnected and I will have to go buy a different one to replace it. Could you update on any sign of a fix? I think I found the solution. My symptoms were that I was watching a movie The Hobbit and at times it seemed like the sound cut out. I think what was happening was that the subwoofer was cutting out as there was a noticable loss of low frequencies. I saw on another thread that wireless routers may cause interference and, according to the manual, the speakers operate at 2.
I assume this is to communicate between the bar and the subwoofer. Note that many routers use 2. My subwoofer wasn't far from the bar, but it was on the other side of some electronic equipment which may have caused interference.
My wifi router is also in the same place so I don't have much of a choice here. I moved some things around and it seems to not be happening anymore: I moved the sub so that it had more direct line of sight to the sound bar.
I changed the channel for the 2. After doing that, it seems to have been fixed. Hi pschang Thanks for the suggestion but I and others in the thread have tried both suggestions and neither have solved the problem. I even went as far as to turn our router off completley and got the neighbours to do the same with theirs. My sub is sat just in front of the Soundbar, no obstructions or interference. Exact same problem as you described Thanks for the suggestions though, appreciate you helping!
I wonder what the difference between your unit and the others is. KishanM5, could Sony please provide an update?
I paid for this Soundbar over a month ago and am still frustrated by the issues. I held out on returning it because I believed Sony would be able to provide a fix. I totally agree Sony need to sort this out and quick as I thought I could live with the sound dips but it's really starting to annoy me and I am stuck with a useless product.
Many cordless phones now run on that frequency. Maybe, as a test, you can take the sub and bar to a different part of the house and test it. Perhaps your neighbors wifi is interfering though I imagine this would only happen if you lived very close to your neighbors and had a lot of wifi signals in that area. Take just 3 clicks to discover must-have entertainment on the powerful Smart Hub, ramp up the audio on your soundbar or surf the web on What Hi-Fi?
Previously, first-time setup for a console generally involved a lot of laborious manual entry of account Yahoo Finance. In total, the Ronin 4D offers three focusing modes - manual , autofocus The 7-inch High-Bright Remote Monitor includes a wireless video receiver, while the built-in gyro sensor allows Trusted Reviews.
I just put this and another sound bar , in different rooms in our home. For an average size room with normal ceiling height, it is really a very fine sounding piece. When setting up a Samsung surround sound system in your office, it is important to choose an open area to place the speakers or sound bar in order to fully experience the depth of sound created by Houston Chronicle.
