I would like to try the Rivera iso cab as it seems like a cool design, but the basic speaker in a box iso cabs just sound boxy and not good to me. Pete's using a Bogner 1x12 Cube speaker cab in a closet surrounded by thick soundproofing of some sort.

The cab is miked, which is fed to his interface for recording. After lots of research and using ISO cabs live Jet City, Grendel Sound, others I think , there is no way these are going to sound as good as a mic'ed cab will. An ISO cab is essentially a speaker miked inside a soundless box, whereas a speaker cab's sound is the sound of the speaker AND the wood cabinet vibrating like a drum.

I like the idea of ISO cabs, but they just don't get close to good tone for me. Messages 2, I used to have a Grendel and a Demeter, both sounded "stuffy and congested". I now own a Rivera which is light years a head of either of the previous one, but also, a lot more moolah. The Rivera sound a lot more open and cab-like. I think the key to these Iso Cabs is good mic placement and knowing that it's gonna kill a little bit of your clean headroom.

Just something I found. After I got used to those two things, I get great sound from the Rivera. BTW I don't use it for recording but use it in a live situation at my church.
