Nokia memory card format software

I've got the same problem. It's not even greyed out. The card is visible everywhere it should be, but gives an error when I atry to access it as it still need formatting. How do I format it? Everywhere I look suggests that this card is compatible with the phone. Ive just installed a 4GB sandisk card in the phone, It appears in the menus, but there is no option available to format the card even though the manual states there is. As I'm the 3rd reader with this problem, I think its about time Nokia support did something about it.
